message in a bottle

Hi there...

One thing I love about cardmaking is, no matter what the weather looks like where you live, you can craft yourself to a beautiful place...

I just wanted to use this pretty bottle again. It's one of my favorite sets by Create A Smile and I was in the mood for a beach themed card.

  • stamp the bottle and the ferns on some watercolor paper with a black pigment ink, cover it with clear embossing powder and heat set it
  • color your images with watercolor markers (I used Zigs) and a water brush
  • fussy cut your colored stamps
  • paint water on a watercolor paper by using a light blue or light turquoise color
  • paint one stroke over the bottle. Be sure you know where your bottle will be in the water later, so you match the water on the bottle with your background
  • die cut your watercolor panel and adhere it to a light brown or sand card base
  • adhere the fern and the bottle on your card using foam tape
  • finish up your project by stamping  your sentiment and gluing on some clear drops

Go through your stash and pick a stamp set that makes you think of a happy place. ;-)

Cheers!

Hello crafty friends, it's Kerstin here!

Today I have a male birthday card for you (attention: no cute critters involved).

Lately I needed a last minute male birthday card for a colleague. So no chance to use any cute critters on this card. Luckily some of the Create a Smile stamp sets are perfect for this occasion.

  • stamp, heat emboss, color and fuzzy cut the vinyl record
  • stamp and color the bottle from the message in a bottle (in this case I tried to color it like a beer bottle)
  • create a background using one of the super cool stencils and distress oxide inks
  • for a little more interest sprinkle some water and black ink on the finished background
  • glue everything together with foam tape to add some dimension

If you want to be super quick look for precolored images from past coloring challenges.  I for example store these images in the bag of the stamp set.

Poof! What Do You Wish For?

Hi there!
Samantha here, and my birthday is tomorrow, so I thought I would share a cute, rainbow-y birthday themed card!

I just LOVE that cute little genie!! I wanted to color a whole rainbow of them, but decided to keep the rainbow in the background this time!

Let's make this card together!

- stamp and color your image (I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers)
- once dry, fussy cut and set aside
- on a strip of black cardstock, heat emboss your sentiment

- on your card front, use a circle shape as a mask, and ink blend the rainbow! I used Distress Inks in various colors and an ink blending tool!

- then I placed the stencil on top and used some white embossing paste to add texture!

I thought about adding the bottle image from the stamp set, for the genie to be coming out of! But I decided it was too much for this clean and simple card! What do you think?

I used the Focal Point Stencil over my distressed rainbow, and the cute cute little genie is from Message In a Bottle!

Caught a Bug?

Hi there!
Samantha here with you again, and this time I'm sharing a get well card!

Unfortunately, my husband was 'Mann Sick' this past week, which is different than regular sick...because he's a man (and our last name is Mann), and a total baby! lol!

Let's make this card together!

- stamp and color your images (I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers)
- once the image was dry, I added some sparkles with Stickles to add a little more fun to the rainbow germs!
- fussy cut out and set aside

- on a piece of white cardstock, use white embossing paste and a stencil to create the background

- on the cardbase, stamp the smaller images from the sets in black ink! love those little tissues and pills and band aids! they really add to the get well feel of the card, I think!

I am a huge super fan of white embossing paste over a white cardstock background! But it's sometimes hard to photograph well! One thing I do sometimes, it to take a thin grey marker and trace one edge of the stencil! It's adds a subtle shadow and instantly the background pops!

Most of this card was created using the Message in a Bottle stamp set! But some of the small images on the side of the card are from When You're Not Around set! I also used the Focal Point Stencil

Have you had your eye on the amazing Mandala Cling stamp? Good news!! It's back in stock!! Grab it while you can! :)
