Guest Designer Julia Altermann Part 4

Hello lovely crafters,

it's time for some inspiration by Julia Altermann again. Unfortunately this is her last post for her as our July Guest Designer and we LOVED all her work. I made this card when I read in the news that in the US, same-sex marriage was made legal all across the country. Even though I’m not a US citizen, I am so happy for my gay and lesbian friends who can finally enjoy the same rights as all other human beings – and I hope that we in Europe will not be far behind this amazing step in equal rights. I just found that the elephant could be used perfectly to blow the rainbow flag across the card :) 

I stamped the elephant at the very bottom of the card, since he looks like he’s just peeking across something or pulls himself up into the picture ;)

I used my pencil to draw in the area where the rainbow colors would go; I also used my pencil to divide up the area to make sure I could fit all the colors. Once I was sure about the placement, I used a Copic Multiliner to draw in the lines permanently.

For the coloring, I used three shades of each color group to go from dark to light and then colored to my heart’s content.

 

Work slowly. As with every clean and simple design, any errors will jump out. I know I tend to go outside the lines when coloring, so I took my time to make sure this wouldn’t happen.

To add a dimensional effect to a one layer card, add gray to the outside of the “flag”. It makes it pop a little more.

And for even more interest, find your white gel pen and add some dots. The always make a design more lively.

Guest Designer Julia Altermann Part 3

Hi everyone,

it's a sunny, warm day in Germany and I'm here to share some warm and bright card with you, that our Guest Designer Julia Altermann from Just One More Card created.

Here's what she has for you:

I wanted to show that that sometimes the "accessory" stamps can be the star of the show.

- Stamp on a single piece of paper which is 4.25x5.5”. 

- In order to line up your stamp each time perfectly, use a stamp press or put some grid paper underneath your card base – that will make it much easier. Don’t forget to clean your stamps really well so you won’t have residues of the previous color when you stamp again.

- To create the layered effect on the card front, leave 1/3 of the front intact and cut off the rest. Then adhere the stamped panel (4.25x5.5”) to the inside of the front panel – it looks like it’s one piece, but isn’t. ;)

- Stamp your sentiment on the top part of the card and then use embellishments to your heart’s content – I always use sequins by Pretty Pink Posh and this time, I even inlaid them with some seed beads.

 

If you want to create a rainbow or hombre effect with your stamp colors, take out all the ink pads you will need ahead of time and arrange them in the order you will need them. Ink swatches can be a huge help to find the correct colors. If you find that your card doesn't have enough contrast, try layering a strip of card stock that has a very intense color between the white and the colored part. And to balance out the card, little embellishments can go a long way.

I wanted to create a card that features all the four critters in the new stamp set. And it looked to me like they could be having a photo session.

For my card I'm using Prismacolor pencils. But you can use any coloring medium that you prefer.

When you use Prismacolor pencils, always use a paper that has a slight tooth (some texture and is not completely smooth). Also, working layers. This goes for Prismacolor pencils and Polychromos; you need to keep adding color and not get everything down on the first go.

July Guest Designer Julias Altermann (Part 1)

Hello everyone!

This is the SECOND video on the blog today - so much so see and watch and learn - fun!
It's our pleasure to welcome Julia Altermann from Just one More Card as our Guest Designer for July - yay!

This is what she's up to:

I wanted to create a card that is as clean and simple as anyhow possible. At the same time, I wanted some fun  color accents with patterned paper.

When creating a clean and simple card, there is not much opportunity to hide mistakes. For that reason, make sure that you craft surface is very clean so you won't accidentally transfer ink onto your card. Also, make sure to cut very straight and stamp straight.  The smallest mistakes will be super visible :-)

Hello everyone

thanks for your patience - it took some time to pick our July Guest Designer. We had 38 entries and they were all adorable. You really made the choice a tough one!
We had cute entries, elegant entries, bright entries, muted entries - lots of fabulous projects and I would like to thank everyone who took the time and submitted a card, putting thought and effort in it. I hope you had fun using our stamps - that's what they're made for!
