Taking Risks in Cardmaking!

Hello friends and welcome back! Laurie here with you today to share a card that could have been a complete disaster! I wanted to share the process with you to let you know that's its actually quite fun to take some risks in your cardmaking!

I've seen some beautiful cards with florals on top of a very dark background and I wanted to try something similar.

I started by white heat embossing a few of the images from the Doodle Flowers Stamp Set onto a piece of watercolour paper.

Using some liquid watercolours, I did some very simple colouring. I tried my hardest to let the water do the work and not fuss with it too much.  It turned out quite pretty.

Normally, this is where I would have left it. Just added it to a cardbase with a sentiment and called it done. But this is where the "risk" comes in. I used an undiluted black watercolour and carefully painted in the background.

This made the colours even more vibrant! I did have to do a couple of light layers to even out the colour.

I trimmed down the panel and foam mounted it to a white card base.

It was at this point that I realized I hadn't added a sentiment. I placed the card in my Misti and stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink and used the same white embossing powder. The sentiment comes from the Mallow Blossoms Stamp Set.

I did end up having some stray embossing powder but we all know how tricky it can be embossing on black!

For a bit of extra detail, I used a white gel pen to add some highlights and dots to the flowers and leaves as well as a few white heart die cuts.

I think embossing your images definitely makes this technique easier. I also think it would be cool to use black embossing powder!! You can also do this with different mediums such as alcohol markers.

It's ok to try something outside your comfort zone. Remember, it's just paper :)

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

For my FAVORITE friend....!!

 FAVORITE FRIEND

Hey everyone...

It's Ashlee here with you today and I have a jungle themed friendship card to share with you I hope you enjoy it!!

I wanted to use the Wildflowers to create a jungle themed type of background so the whole design started by stamping those....

- Use the wildflowers stamps to stamp a bunch of leaves around the edge of the card (I used Catherine Pooler inks in the colours Mardi Gras, Lime Rickey and Grass Skirt)
- Once the bold images are stamped use some Memento tuxedo black ink to stamp on the co-ordinating outlines
- Stamp the sentiments from the Favorite everything stamp set using black ink
- Stamp, colour and cut out the lion, rocks and bird images from the Fur real stamp set (I used Copic markers to colour mine)
- Add the coloured images to the card base using layers of foam tape for dimension

Use multiple images to create fun backgrounds for your cards....

Wildflowers

Fur real

Favorite everything

Rainbow Frog

 Hey stampers, Anni here!

September just begun and I have a card for you with more of a autumn feeling.

I had the frog already per coloured on my desk. But with the high temperatures we had in the last weeks it just didn't feel right to make a rainy card. The temperatures are lower now and September has started. So now it was time for the frog.

  • I have all my stamps and dies cataloged in an app called Evernote. For every set I added catch words so I can find any item I have in my stash. I searched for a sentiment that had something to do with rain and find this one that says something like Friends are the colourful umbrella in the rain.
  • Because of the sentiment I wanted a colourful background. I chose colours that matched the colours I used for the frog and added in 2 others to fill up the rainbow.
  • I masked of stripes on the panel in the width of the sentiment and ink blended the rainbow.
  • To calm down a busy background it is always a good idea to add a layer of vellum.
