Experimenting with Dark Colour Schemes

Hi everyone! Going out of your comfort zone. How often do you do it when it comes to making your projects? I try to do it sometimes because I think it helps to create cards that I never thought I would. Sometimes, it might turn out nice but sometimes, it might not. But at least, you tried and you can always improve it if you want.

Well, for today's card, it's really out of my comfort zone. First of all, it's not my regular bright and colourful card. I chose to go into the darker side of the colour scheme. It's not a sad card but I wanted to make something that might appeal to people who prefer darker colour. I hope you like how it turned out.

Also, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

I see and I make a lot of bright and colourful cards but perhaps, there are people who like those darker colours.

I did not want to colour in the stamps but around it. So, I started out by stamping the different heart shapes from the stamp set to have a variety of sizes. I should have stamped it in black ink but I didn't think that I would want it to have some blank lines details at first. So, I used the Antique Linen Distress Ink.

Next, I used some black and purple watercolours to colour the outside of the stamp. This allows you to see the shape of the stamps without having to colour in the stamps. If you follow the latest Online Card Class, I believe, Dawn calls it the negative colouring. I really want to try this technique even more.

To prevent you watercolour to have harsh lines, you can add more water to the edges of the colours to blur out the lines. Add as much colours and as little as you like. I tried to have the colours to be a bit darker around the outline of the stamp.

Added my sentiments and some sequins to finished the card.

p.s : you can do this technique even without a stamp by drawing your own shapes!

  1. It sure is different. It's not something I would do per say but hey, if you like it, go for it! It is, like someone said, very artsy.
