Dream of Summer

Hello Crafters!

It's Kelly here and I hope you all had wonderful holidays. It was 60 degrees  here which was weird for December in Ohio. However this past week has made up for it since we've had snow twice and it's now a balmy 14 degrees outside.

I'm getting ready for CHA this coming weekend so I've been thinking about all that warm weather while I'm stuck here in the snow. I wanted to create something that combined the two.

I started by ripping a piece of copy paper in two and using both sides as masks. I also added masks to the trees and hammock. I masked the "sand" first. I rubbed on Distress ink in Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, and Blueprint sketch for my water. As I got closer to the "sky" I added in Wilted Violet, Dusty Concord, and Chipped Sapphire. I reversed the mask to create the sand using Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso. After I removed the sky mask but left the trees/hammock masks in place.

The white waves were created by pouncing on white acrylic paint with a stiff brush. Once that was dry I removed all the masks. I heat set the whole piece before heat embossing the snowflakes falling from the sky and the sentiment. The trees and hammock were colored with copic markers.

For those of you who would rather watch I was able to get a video together too!

When you create a background with distress inks make sure it is completely dry before attempting any heat embossing. Distress ink stays wet a long time.

Thanks so much for visiting us!

  1. Great techniques shared for creating a beach scene. Thanks for taking the time to "show & tell" the process with the two masks and the acrylic paint pouncing. I hope the So Cal weather improves for your CHA trip. I worked in pouring rain and 54 degrees today☔️
